
Everything you need to know for your visit
The castle courtyard and the castle bridge are fully accessible; a ramp leads to the exhibition ticket office in Wing D.
The exhibitions in Wing D ("Torgau: Residence of the Renaissance and Reformation" and the special exhibition on the 1st floor) are fully accessible; the 1st floor can be reached via a large elevator.
The accessible restrooms are also located in Wing D (open during the opening hours of the exhibitions and the District Office). Dimensions: Door 134 cm wide, space 290x150 cm in front and 145 cm to the left and 90 cm to the right of the toilet, toilet height 50 cm.
The exhibition STEADFAST, PIOUS, AND HARD-DRINKING in Wing B has limited accessibility: All floors are accessible by elevator. On the third floor, there is a 6.5-cm threshold leading to the “Drehestube.” On the second floor, four steps lead to the “Flaschenstube”; the Electress’s Room is accessible. On the first floor, a 20-cm-high step leads through a 1-meter-wide door to the castle chapel; the Elector’s Room is accessible. The exhibition space on the Torgau Fortress is accessible via a 14.5-cm-high threshold.
The Lapidarium is accessible via the entrance on Elbstrasse; a ramp leads to the exhibition (4 cm threshold, 12% gradient, 4 m long).
The Big Spiral Staircase, the Hausmann Tower and the rose garden are accessible only by stairs.

Hartenfels Castle is the administrative headquarters of the district of North Saxony. The Hartenfels Castle Cultural Centre is a project run by the North Saxony District Office. You can find the current opening hours of the North Saxony District Citizens’ Office here.
For cyclists, bike lockers with charging stations and a repair station are available at the Jägertor (the castle entrance on the Elbe side) for a deposit of €10.
You can obtain the keys during opening hours at the exhibition ticket office in Wing D:
April–October: daily except Tuesday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
November–March: daily except Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
The castle café awaits you with a wide selection of treats. On warm days, you can enjoy the view of the Big Spiral Staircase from the outdoor seating area in the castle courtyard.

Dogs are permitted on the castle grounds. Please note that they are not allowed to accompany you inside the building.

Hartenfels Castle is certified as a family-friendly facility. The exhibitions are accessible with strollers, and baby-changing stations are located in Wing D near the restrooms. The exhibition STEADFAST, PIOUS, AND HARD-DRINKING (wing B) is particularly well-suited for visits with children. In addition, there is a quiz available at the exhibition ticket office that allows kids ages 6 and up to explore the castle on their own - or an online quiz game on Actionbound.
Lost and found items can be turned in at the exhibition ticket office. They will be held there for two weeks and can be picked up during exhibition hours.
