The magnificent building is constantly changing and has repeatedly become a hotspot throughout history: Luther dedicated the castle chapel and made it a trendsetter. Napoleon wanted Hartenfels as part of the Saxon-Napoleonic fortress and the Prussians used it as barracks after the Congress of Vienna. At the end of the Second World War, the Allies shook hands here and the castle on the Elbe became a place of encounter. The DEFA movie "Sleeping Beauty" captured the Great Wendelstein, which was getting on in years at the time, on the movie screen and awoke the fairytale castle from a long sleep. Today, the unique architectural masterpiece of the Renaissance Period shines again and bears witness to the glory and splendor of the former electoral residence.
The special exhibition FAIRYTALES focuses on all these highlights of world history and tells the story of Hartenfels Castle from the perspective of contemporary witnesses using auhentic artefacts and interactive media. Exciting and informative for the whole family, for globetrotters and walkers alike.
